  1. Kia ora Tim,
I'm Mrs Williams. I work in schools all around Gisborne just like Mrs Torrie does. I came and visited your classroom with her at the beginning of 2020, so I'm excited to see you're doing so well with the Summer Learning Journey. I really like your approach to building a dam.... it's similar to a miniature garden in that you've created a smaller scale model that still demonstrates the same thing. It's so neat. Do you live on a farm or near a farm in Matawai? I know many people on farms have dams as a source of water for their stock. I'd love to know more information about what you were thinking about when you were creating your dam. What worked well and what didn't? Did you get any scientific understandings about what needs to happen for a dam to work efficiently and to be built in the first place? It would be wonderful if you could edit your blog post to share a bit more with us about what you know and learned.
I really love that you've included photos of the process so that we can see how you created it.
    Keep up the great blogging,
    Mrs Williams

  2. Tēnā koe Tim, my name is Elle and I’m from the Summer Learning Journey.

Ka pai - you have done a great job on your dam! Thank you for sharing so many awesome pictures of your process creating it! I think it’s so awesome that you made a contained space, and tested it by adding water. It’s awesome to see it in action.

I really like how the tall grass seeds make it look like there are plants growing on the bank! If you were to make a full scale dam, where would you build it? It would be fun to make one in the creek or the river! My brothers and I made one in a creek with stones when we were younger, but we had to take it apart so that the eels could travel downstream.

Keep up the great blogging Tim! I’m looking forward to seeing what you post next.

    Ngā mihi,
    Elle (SLJ)
